Say hello to one of our newest culinary instructors here at The Culinary Center of Kansas City, Jill Garcia Schmidt.
Jill grew up in Newton, KS, surrounded by family and food. "Everything we did revolved around a table filled with enough food to feed a small army," she says.
After her mother passed away in 1990, she made it her mission to recreate her best dishes and baked goods. She also learned to make authentic Mexican cuisine from her Great Grandmother Guadelupe Garcia, and her Grandma Meier taught her all her secrets to classic comfort food.
Jill spent the past 25 years studying and taking every opportunity to put her skills into practice, doing everything from bartending to running a kitchen line and catering events for hundreds of people.
Her dream is to share her passion for food with the world. She has wanted her own cooking show since the age of 5. As part of that pursuit, she appears on Better Kansas City as a monthly guest in the Price Chopper Kitchen sharing her recipes and tips. (Food Network, are you watching???)
Jill's approach to cooking is a lot like everything she does, full of fun with a touch of manic perfectionism. She loves to put her spin on classic dishes and bring her Mexican heritage to the forefront whenever possible.
